Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be feeling overwhelmed, experiencing difficulties in your relationships, navigating a significant life transition, or simply wanting to understand yourself more deeply. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If you're unsure whether therapy is right for you, you're welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation.

What happens during the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is an opportunity for us to meet, talk about what has brought you to therapy and discuss what you hope to gain from our work together. It is also a chance for you to ask questions and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me. There is no obligation to continue after our first conversation.

How long is a therapy session?

Sessions are typically 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate.

How often will we meet?

For individual therapy, most clients begin with weekly sessions. This provides continuity, helps build the therapeutic relationship, and creates space to develop understanding and support meaningful change.

For couples and family therapy, sessions are often held fortnightly or monthly, depending on your needs and circumstances. This allows time to reflect on our conversations, notice changes in your relationships, and try new ways of communicating or relating between sessions. Often, some of the most important work happens in everyday life, as you begin to put new understanding into practice. We will review the frequency of sessions together and adapt them as your needs change.

Will I be expected to do anything between sessions?

There is no expectation that you will complete set tasks or "homework" between sessions. However, therapy doesn't stop when the session ends. You may find yourself reflecting on our conversations, noticing patterns in your relationships, or becoming curious about your thoughts, feelings and interactions with others.

Sometimes I may invite you to try something different, reflect on a particular experience, or continue a conversation with someone important to you, if it feels appropriate and helpful. Any suggestions will always be discussed collaboratively and tailored to your individual circumstances.

Therapy is about supporting meaningful change in everyday life, and often the insights and experiences that happen between sessions become an important part of our work together.

Do you offer online or face-to-face therapy?

I currently offer online therapy sessions only.

Online therapy provides a flexible, confidential and effective way to access support from wherever you feel most comfortable. I work with clients across the UK using a secure online platform.

Do you work with neurodivergent clients?

Alongside my professional experience, I also bring lived experience of neurodivergence. I recognise that everyone experiences and understands the world differently, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I aim to provide a collaborative, respectful and flexible therapeutic space that is responsive to your individual needs, preferences and ways of communicating.

If there is anything that would help make our sessions more comfortable or accessible for you, please let me know. Together, we can consider how best to adapt the way we work so that therapy feels supportive, safe and meaningful for you.

How much do sessions cost?

Please visit the Fees page for details of my current fees.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I kindly ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full session fee.

Is everything I say confidential?

Confidentiality is a fundamental part of therapy. What you share during our sessions will remain confidential except in rare circumstances where there is a legal or ethical duty to share information, such as where there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or where disclosure is required by law. I will always aim to discuss this with you wherever possible.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number of sessions. Some people find that a small number of sessions is enough to achieve what they need, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. We will regularly review our work together and decide what feels most helpful for you.

Do you work with individuals, couples and families?

Yes. I work with adults, couples and families experiencing a wide range of relationship and life challenges, including family relationships, parenting, separation, menopause, and significant life transitions.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch by email or through the contact form on my website. We can arrange an initial consultation to discuss what has brought you to therapy and whether working together feels like the right fit.
